It's Xanadu

Broadway adapts cult classic film "Xanadu" for the stage and while they play up the "plot" of the film they didn't touch the excellent music. That's good.

Prototypes are cool, baby....

While reading the October issue of Playboy Magazine (yes, I was reading it...), they gave review and short clip of the new album by the French band Prototypes. It blew me away. Prototypes throw out a great mash-up of punk, new wave, and pop music. Since I don't speak a word of French I have no idea what the lyrics are, but the music is kick ass.

History of MTV

At 12:01 am on August 1st 1981 Music Television - MTV for short - signed on the air. The cable channel changed the cultural landscape in many ways - not all of them positive. Here is a list of the videos played in the first hour back in 1981

Announcing a new page about Swing Out Sister

I had some time this weekend to finally create and upload a tribute page for one of my longtime favorite bands, Swing Out Sister. I have liked them and their music ever since the debut in 1987. They started out as just another synth pop dance band common during the late 80's but their music seemed different. It sounded fresh even if the style was not. Then through the years they evolved into more of a cool jazz style.

Disappointment for The Corrs fans in the US

In an earlier entry I gushed about the new album coming out from my favorite band The Corrs. It is going to be called "Home" and will have interpretations of several traditional Irish songs including a couple in Gaelic. Many of us long time fans have loved the band's nuggets of traditional Irish music on their earlier albums and we are excited to have a whole album worth of them. The album is scheduled to be released on September 26th in Ireland and the UK and September 27th in Europe and Canada. However, fans in the United States may have to wait until 2006 or never for the US release.

Tara Blaise: Another singer to gush over.

Ok, I am going to gush again about a female singer who melted my heart once again with a siren's voice. I don't know what it is about the female voice that turns me into goo. I am also pissed that my new discovery is from Ireland which means I will have to work extra hard to see and hear her music.

Corrs debut new tunes in Paris

This weekend I had the chance to watch and listen to short gig my favorite band The Corrs gave as part of French RTL2 network. It was a private concert in that one had to be invited to it but they broadcast it live over the radio and had a video feed on their website. The Corrs were one of several acts to perform. The gig marked the debut of 4 songs from their upcoming album tentatively titled "Home" that according to lead singer Andrea would be released in September or October.

New Music Recommendation

I have a secret. I am a HUGE fan of swinging full blown 60's style pop music. Think Burt Bacharach or Dozier/Holland/Dozier from Motown. The music is lush with the standard pop sound layered with strings and horns. You had artists like LuLu, Dionne Warwick, Petula Clark, The Supremes etc...

Clarkson's new single ROCKS!

I was surfing the TV channels the other night before Thanksgiving and Fox was having some kind of American Idol Christmas special with Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, and Fantasia. The format was they would each sing a song of their own and then some Christmas tunes. I wasn't planning on watching the show but Kelly's set pulled me in.

Fantastic Night in Cleveland with The Corrs

On Saturday August 21, I had the opportunity to see, live and in person, my favorite band The Corrs at the Tower City Ampitheater in Cleveland, Ohio. It was a great night, one that went by far too fast.

A Look At the Uber Fan

Music, like all forms of art, allows us to express ourselves to others. Music can convey the full rage of human emotions. Music we love is any that touches us in whatever way we are feeling or want to feel. It is a given that not all of us feel the same way or enjoy music in the same way.

The Corrs come to Cleveland and I will be there

I am disappointed my pleas for them to come to Columbus on tour were ignored but Cleveland is just as good and thanks to Ticketmaster I now have tickets to see their August 21 show at Tower City Amphitheater. There may be tickets still available.
