Philly Dawg - It's GOOD!

After being the goat in missing a 52 yard field goal at the end of regulation against Pittsburgh, the Browns' Phil Dawson makes a 51 yarder that hit the upright and then hit the neck of the post supporting the uprights.

Big Ten Conference profiting from tax payers

Exclusive television deals aren't unusual. Notre Dame has had an exclusive deal with NBC for many years to broadcast its football games each fall. What is different is that the Big Ten Network (BTN) will be on cable and no local broadcast stations will be able to show games slated for the BTN. It seems to be a problem for programs supported by tax dollars.

Ohio State Final Four Then and Now

The last official final four for Ohio State was 1968. The starting 5 on that team were Bill Hosket, Steve Howell, Dave Sorenson, Jody Finney, and Denny Meadors. Hosket has been involved in broadcasting Buckeye games and is still well known to OSU fans from that era and today. Dave Sorenson is a name I know well. He attended Findlay High School before going to Ohio State.

I want my NFL please

When I moved to Columbus the issue because troublesome. I am now in the middle of 2 team's market area (Cleveland and Cincinnati) and also could be included in a 3rd (Pittsburgh) and all of them are in the AFC. Our local CBS station has the thankless job of deciding which team to show each week of the season especially if they are playing at the same time - which seems to be most of the time. The NFL and CBS doesn't allow WBNS to move the other games to another channel like WWHO which is a broadcast channel or to a dedicated digital cable channel.

Fantasy football leaves me unfulfilled

Five years of playing has shown I am the unluckiest player in the world. I have never finished higher than 4th in any of the leagues I have been in and this past season I finished last or near the bottom of the three leagues I joined. My records were 3-11, 5-9, and 4-10 and each team finished the season by losing 5 games in a row.

Football Deja vu

While reading the Findlay Courier online this past Thursday, I read the article they wrote about the Findlay High game the next day. The article talks about that week's opponent and the coach's view of what FHS is expecting. The opponent was Marion Harding High. Harding is a long time opponent. Marion is about an hour drive south of Findlay. The article talked about the teams meeting in 1985.

My obligatory Ben Roethlisberger fan post

The Super Bowl is today in Detroit. The Pittsburgh Steelers vs The Seattle Seahawks. The game is going to be extra special for those of us from Findlay. A hometown boy will be leading the Steelers on the field. Big Ben Roethlisberger is one of the youngest starting quarterback to start a Super Bowl. The youngest was Dan Marino.

Gushing about Football

As a grad of Findlay High, I follow the exploits of the football team from afar as I live in Columbus now. I am pleased as punch that the Findlay Trojans are 5-1 and as of last week ranked 3rd in Region 2 of the OHSAA computer rankings. As I said, living in Columbus forces me to follow the team via the newspaper or over the Internet. WFIN, the main station in Findlay has been streaming football games over the Internet for several years. Even when they had to stop streaming the station due to royalty issues (thank you Napster) they still stream the games each Friday night.

Hockey owners are like kids in a candy store

The issue in the dispute is clear. The team owners want what they call "cost certainty". This is just a another way of talking about a hard salary cap. Player salaries would be limited for each team based on overall revenues.

Do you believe in Miracles?

Most Americans will remember that famous line uttered by sportscaster Al Michaels as he called the final seconds in the 1980 Olymic Hockey tournament semi-finals pitting the US team versus the powerful Soviet team. The US had won 4-3 and the next day beat Finland to win its first Gold medal in hockey since 1960. A major motion picture called "Miracle" debuts on February 6th which tells the story of the 1980 team and its coach Herb Brooks who did the impossible.

A Second Chance

As a senior at Findlay High, I played on the football team. Rather I was on the team but had no talent to play in a game. I was on the team only because I was a senior and the school had a 'no cuts' policy. As long as they had equipment for you, you were on the team. One of my teammates that year was Jon Wauford. I believe he was a sophomore or Junior that year. He played running back and was on defense.
