A meme showed up in my Facebook feed the other day that tried to undermine the movement to raise the minimum wage to $15 and hour by comparing ‘burger flipping’ with a ‘real job’ as if that proved the protestors are wrong. It actually points out how broken our economic system is for middle-class workers and those who make the current minimum wage and lower. $15 an hour should be the starting point not the end.

Income gap largest since 1920’s

This was mind blowing. The income gap is the largest since the Roaring 20’s and 50% of the population has only 2.5% of the wealth. The top 10% of the population has 71.5% of the wealth

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Cliché, sure, but it’s also more true than at any time since the Gilded Age.

The poor are getting poorer, wages are falling behind inflation, and social mobility is at an all-time low. 

If you’re in that top 1%, life is grand.
