Happy Thanksgiving!

Another holiday is about to come to an end and I can feel the turkey starting to hit me. I remember back when I was a kid it was all parades on TV until noon, today I couldn’t find a parade at all. Oh, there was parades, they just didn’t show them on TV. All of them have those crap dancing and singing bits on the street.

Just show me the floats and balloons, please. I don’t care that Grease is on Broadway and I didn’t care for the G rated version of “Greased Lighting”.

All I want is all the floats and balloons and Jack Lord at the end telling me “Aloha” from Hawaii leading into the football game at noon.

The football games today – Detroit and the Titans and Dallas and Seattle – were awful. Just awful. I stopped watching after the first half.

My dinner turned out great. I cooked a turkey breast roast, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and dinner rolls. It hasn’t killed me yet so I must have done it right.

Here is a slide show of my thanksgiving meal:

Dear Michigan Football Fan

I just learned that due to the loss to Purdue on Saturday, you will miss going to a bowl game and will have a losing season for the first time since 1967.

Don’t be too sad. Change sucks. You have a new coach with a new system but you just didn’t have the players for it.

I know how you feel. Back in 1987, Ohio State fired Earle Bruce – old 9 and 3 Earle – as we use to call him because of the many 9 and 3 season records. OSU hired John Cooper who’s only claim to fame was beating you guys back in the 1987 Rose Bowl as coach of Arizona State.

In Cooper’s first season we went 4-6-1. That included being blown out by Pittsburgh and Indiana and not going to a bowl game.

So change does hurt but Coach Rodriguez is a good coach and once his recruits come in you will get better – but I hope not too much better…. (grin)

Hopefully we beat you this year but it would be better if you were a good team.

Good luck next season.

USC loses to unranked team and drops only 8 spots

The weekly football polls came out this afternoon and there was an interesting look to it.

University of Southern California, which was the number 1 team coming into this weekend, was listed as 9th in the AP Poll and 11th in the USA Today Poll.

The funny thing is that USC lost to an UNRANKED team and dropped the same number of spots that Ohio State (then 5th ranked) dropped when it lost to USC in week 2.

Wisconsin lost to an unranked team and dropped 8 spots too.

Basically the poll voters didn’t seem to care who the loss was against except when it was Ohio State in week 2.

I think that vote was a response to the left over hate from last season when people didn’t think Ohio State deserved to be in the Championship game.

Georgia, which was 3rd this past week, dropped 8 places after losing to 8th ranked Alabama and Florida dropped 8 spots after losing to an unranked team.

I just think a team should drop more if the loss is to an unranked team.

In 2007, Michigan was ranked 5th before they lost to a division 2 team and they dropped out of the polls.

Great game but wrong result for the Findlay Trojans

Ugh! At the end of 3 quarters I thought Findlay would pull out the victory, but a muffed punt close to the goal line ended the try.

There won’t be an asterisk next the “L” Findlay got for Friday’s 41-34 loss to Upper Arlington.

And FHS coach Mark Ritzler doesn’t want one.

“We’re not into moral victories. We were out here to win,” Ritzler said.

Findlay’s effort against a powerhouse Upper Arlington team went into the books as a loss only in the technical sense, however.

The Trojans overcame a 13-0 deficit to forge a 17-13 lead, erased a 10-point third-quarter deficit to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter, and almost overcame 14 points in the final 5 minutes.

“I told the guys I’m proud of them and I’m proud to be their coach,” Ritzler said. “I was proud of the way they kept coming back and fighting. They never gave up.”

Next up is traditional powerhouse Cincinnati Moeller in Cincinnati.

Good luck to Coach Mark Ritzler and the Trojans!

And thanks always to WFIN for streaming the games on the Internet for us expats.

PS – you can also hear University of Findlay games on the Internet as well. Go Oilers!

Philly Dawg – It’s GOOD!

After being the goat in missing a 52 yard field goal at the end of regulation against Pittsburgh, the Browns’ Phil Dawson makes a 51 yarder that hit the upright and then hit the neck of the post supporting the uprights.

Game officials at first said it was no good and the Baltimore Ravens celebrated a come from behind victory, but the Browns protested After a long conference the Refs made the right call and reversed their previous call and ruled the attempt good. That sent the game into overtime.

The Browns got the ball in OT and marched down the field and Philly Dawg kicked a 33-yard field goal to win the game.

It also helped that kick returner Joshua Cribs had 306 yards in kick and punt returns in the game including a 41-yard kickoff return that led to the game winning field goal by Dawson nine plays later. It moved the Browns to 6-4 on the season
